Dunfermline Extension
A two storey copper and timber clad extension to weather over time
Our clients approached us to compose ideas to reorganise and extend their traditional home in Dunfermline. The house had been extended previously but the extension was in an awkward location, blocking light to rooms and was poorly insulated.
Our solution was to demolish the extension and erect a purpose built two storey extension to provide the additional space our clients required. The extension took the form of an 'L' shape to make the best use of the site, allow light to penetrate the existing rooms, avoid overlooking and create useful external patio space. Internally, we relocated the kitchen to provide an open plan layout with the dining and living area. Externally, the extension is clad in natural copper at ground floor level and natural timber at first floor level. Both materials will naturally weather over the lifetime of the building providing a unique and ever-changing design.
